Most adjectives, such as snabb, can be transformed into adverbs by adding the ending -t: snabbt. Adverbs of manner ending in -t have the same form as the ett form of adjectives: fin, fint (well), fina.

Adverbs often answer the question how. For example, how does the waiter walk? -> lugnt. Servitören går lugnt.

Adverbs are used to express e.g.:

  • time (e.g. alltid = always)
  • place (e.g. här = here)
  • manner (e.g. långsamt = slowly)
  • prohibition (e.g. aldrig = never)
  • degree (e.g. mycket = a lot)

Adverbs expressing moments in time:

ibland = sometimes

ofta = often

nu = now

sällan = rarely

sedan = then

fortfarande = still

Adverbs expressing the amount or degree of something:

mycket = a lot

lite = little

enormt = enormously

lagom = suitably, just enough

Some adjectives have the same form as adverbs:

bra = good, well

gratis = free, free of charge

fel = incorrect, incorrectly
