Are you preparing for your English or Swedish matriculation exams and wondering what else you could do in addition to WordDive’s prep course? Read our tips on how to master the language as efficiently and effortlessly as possible before your English or Swedish matriculation exams.

Practise effectively with the WordDive prep course

If you are using the WordDive prep course and are on a tight schedule, here are some tips to help you prepare.

  • Practice 2-4 courses at a time

WordDive organizes the courses automatically in a recommended order. You can change courses whenever you want, but the optimal way to complete the course package is to study 2-4 courses at a time. If you have too many incomplete courses, your short-term memory is working with hundreds of unfinished study items at the same time, which slows down your learning.

If you are almost finished with the course package and there are only a few study items missing from each incomplete course, it is okay to have more courses in progress at the same time.

  • Listen only when necessary

If you think you know the answer, try to answer without listening. This way you get the best result and can quickly move on to new content. If you don’t know the answer, it is better to listen first than to leave the answer field empty. In general it is not good to think too much. Just take it easy and proceed at a swift pace.

  • Track your progress

If you have a computer, you can track your progress as a percentage on the Exercise page. An equivalent measure can be found in the mobile app when scrolling the page all the way

  • Watch out for automatic capitalization

Many mobile devices have a default setting that automatically capitalizes the first letter of the first word. This can slow down your progress. We recommend disabling automatic capitalization.

Use all your senses

The matriculation exams include different types of exercises. The exams in languages also include listening and reading comprehension tasks. In order to prepare for as many different exercise types as possible, we recommend using podcasts, music and different TV programmes to get your ear used to hearing and understanding the language.

Watch your favourite series

Have you ever thought that preparing for matriculation exams could be as easy as watching your favourite TV show? Try switching the language of the series or the subtitle language to the foreign language you’re studying and you’ll be immersed in the language before you know it!

If watching a series in a foreign language seems too much work at first, start with children’s programmes. In children’s programmes, the language is usually a little simpler and the pace slower.

Listen to music on a walk

You can also rely on good music to help you prepare for the exams. WordDive has compiled playlists in foreign languages that you can use.

Try different podcasts

Another useful way to prepare for listening comprehension exercises and to catch up on your fluency in the language is to listen to podcasts.

Good podcasts for practising Swedish include Simple Swedish Podcast and Coffee Break Swedish, which deal with common everyday vocabulary, taking into account the fact that the listener is a language learner.

Read a book in another language

One good way to dive into a foreign language is reading. You can read short children’s books, longer novels or exciting fantasy books. If you find reading fiction difficult, you can start with a familiar topic. For example, browse through a foreign-language non-fiction book on topics you are familiar with.
