There are certain verbs in Spanish that require a reflexive pronoun, which indicates that the subject performs the action on itself. Each person has its own reflexive pronoun:
llamarse (to be called) | |
---|---|
yo | me llamo |
tĂș | te llamas |
él, ella, usted | se llama |
nosotros, -as | nos llamamos |
vosotros, -as | os llamĂĄis |
ellos, -as, ustedes | se llaman |
The reflexive verb is conjugated and the reflexive pronoun selected according to the subject of the sentence:
TĂș te lavas la cara cada noche.
You wash your face every night.
Nos hemos despertado temprano hoy.
We have woken up early today.
The reflexive pronoun is usually placed before the verb. With an infinitive verb it can also be attached to the end of the verb:
ÂĄNo quiero casarme contigo!
I donât want to marry you!
